Jack Sparrow Faces New Dangers in the Trailer for 'On Stranger Tides'

Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz Walt Disney Pictures Captain Jack Sparrow has been betrayed, marooned, imprisoned, cursed, sentenced to hang, and eaten by a giant sea monster. And each time he still came out on top. So you didn't think he'd stop at just three movies, did you?
Walt Disney Pictures just released the first trailer for Capt. Jack's fourth adventure, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides." And while several of the elements that made the original three films one of the top five trilogies of all time are the same, much has changed.
Johnny Depp is back, of course, as Jack, along with Geoffrey Rush as his old nemesis, Barbossa, and Kevin R. McNally as his first mate, Gibbs. But Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley do not appear in this installment. Instead, Jack confronts new threats, including a legendary pirate, and a woman from his past that reignites an old flame. Jack will have to face them all as he pursues the ultimate hidden treasure: finding the Fountain of Youth.

Captain Jack is out of his element as he finds himself on dry land in England and a captive of the British Crown. Richard Griffiths -- who plays Harry Potter's uncle Vernon Dursley -- appears as King George II.
Walt Disney Pictures Barbossa Switches Sides
Captain Barbossa, last seen at the end of "At World's End" running off with the Black Pearl, is back, but he's out of his pirate gear and in a naval uniform. And with that pegleg it looks like he lost a limb somewhere along the way.

Penelope Cruz plays Angelica, who has a history with Jack and her own agenda. She's Spanish, like the actress playing her, and she's obviously capable with a sword and not afraid to stand up for herself. She must get that from her father, Blackbeard.

Ian McShane is Blackbeard, the real-life pirate (born Edward Teach) who terrorized the seas in the early 18th century aboard his ship, Queen Anne's Revenge. He'll stop anyone who tries to get to the Fountain before him.

Every "Pirates" movie has some sort of paranormal adversary, like the cursed crew of the Black Pearl and Davy Jones' fishy fiends.   The last movie even had a goddess, th vengeful Calypso.  In this one, Jack faces the walking undead -- zombies. 
Walt Disney Pictures Beautiful Threats
Mythological creatures don't have to be ugly to be treacherous. To reach the Fountain, Jack will sail through "mermaid waters." And these aren't like Disney's other little mermaids. They tempt sailors to their soggy deaths.
Walt Disney Pictures X Marks the Spot
Throughout the trailer, Jack sports two cuts on his face in the shape of an "X." What does it mean? We'll have to wait until this summer to find out.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" sails into theaters in 3D and in IMAX on May 20, 2011.

China Gas Truck Explosion

BEIJING: At least 20 people were killed and 14 others injured on Friday in an explosion caused by a leak of an oil tank truck in south China s Guangdong province.'The explosion, which sparked a massive fire, took place on an expressway in the provincial capital of Guangzhou around 5.15am local time, a spokesman with the city s public security bureau said.He said 20 people were killed in the explosion.State-run Xinhua news agency reported that the 14 others who were injured in the incident have been hospitalised.The fire caused by the blast was brought under control around 8.30am local time, according to firefighters.

It’s official: Verizon gets the iPhone

Well, that's that. After more than three years of rumors, speculation, and plain old wishful thinking, Verizon Wireless finally announced Tuesday that it will soon be offering its own version of the iPhone, bringing AT&T's long monopoly on the wildly popular handset to an end. The long-expected news came at a packed press conference at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, just a couple of days after the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas wrapped up. Verizon's jubilant CEO, Lowell McAdam, was joined onstage by Apple COO Tim Cook (no sign of Steve Jobs, by the way) and Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Meade. McAdam confirmed that discussions to bring the iPhone to Verizon began as early as 2008. The iPhone 4 will become available for pre-order for existing Verizon subscribers on February 3, with general availability to begin on February 10. The 16GB version of the iPhone will sell for $199, with the 32GB to cost $299—both with a two-year contract. Details...
