Nation to Celebrate Pakistan Day on March 23

LAHORE: Pakistan Day will be celebrated on Wednesday to mark the passage of Lahore resolution that led to the creation of a separate homeland for the South Asian Muslims in 1947.
The Day will dawn with special prayers for the progress and prosperity of the country.
Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa and other dignitaries will visit the mausoleum of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, to pay homage to the poet philosopher who conceived the idea of the establishment of Pakistan. They will lay floral wreath on the grave and offer Fateha.
There will be a public holiday on Wednesday. Various political, cultural, social and other organizations have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the Day in befitting manner.
Pakistan Television, Radio Pakistan and private channels will air special programmes to highlight the significance of Pakistan Day and various aspects of the life and work of Founder of Pakistan Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other leading personalities.
The newspapers will also publish special supplements and focus on the vital relevance of this day. Special meal and sweets will also be served to all inmates across the province on this occasion.
The Punjab University and all other educational institutions have also tailored programmes to celebrate the day in a befitting manner that includes a series of seminars to be held at different teaching departments including Institute of Communication Studies (ICS).
The students of ICS will telecast special programmes on the Day through their PU TV and Radio studios besides publishing a special bulletin on this occasion

Payroll tax cut worries Social Security advocates

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's plan to cut payroll taxes for a year would provide big savings for many workers, but makes Social Security advocates nervous that it could jeopardize the retirement program's finances. The plan is part of a package of tax cuts and extended unemployment benefits that Obama negotiated with Senate Republican leaders. It would cut workers' share of Social Security taxes by nearly one-third for 2011. Workers making $50,000 in wages would get a $1,000 tax cut; those making $100,000 would get a $2,000 tax cut.
